Quality and Craftsmanship

Design

Our primary design rule is always to look to nature. In nature, there is nothing missing and nothing superfluous. Simplicity and durability are at the core of this design ethos; we are totally committed to creating low maintenance furniture from natural materials which will gain depth and character over time. We only use solid premium grade oak and stone so our furniture is exceptionally durable.

Created for you

We understand that every home and garden is unique, so all our furniture is made to the exact specifications of each client. Your bespoke Oxenwood piece will be made exactly to your wishes, rather than the inevitable compromise of buying furniture “off the shelf”. As interior designer Neil Sherring said, “I loved the fact that I could be involved in the design process and commission a table exactly to my requirements.

We specialise in large and oversize tables. We regularly make tables of up to six metres in length and in varying widths. True to our commitment to bespoke design for each client, we can add individual touches such as integrated ice buckets and parasol openings to your table.

Our Materials

We only use the very best materials. Our commitment to quality materials is absolute.

Our passion is solid oak and Belgian bluestone, a stunning combination. We also offer all our designs in reclaimed teak. Both oak and teak can be left outside for years with minimal maintenance whilst gaining a wonderful character and depth over time.

We combine outstanding materials with exceptional craftsmanship to create beautiful pieces of furniture. Our furniture is handmade in Wiltshire by our experienced craftsmen, combining traditional skills, such as mortice and tenon jointing, with modern technology.

Our stone is primarily Belgian bluestone which was created from the shells of billions of crustaceans accumulated 350 million years ago, making every top unique and full of character; a real piece of natural history. Belgian bluestone has a strong resistance to weathering and a texture and colour that makes is such an attractive and versatile stone. Our Belgian bluestone comes in four primary finishes, natural, leathered, antique and ferrara. We also supply our tabletops in artisan polished concrete, marble (for indoor use only) and granite, although, Belgian bluestone is our passion given its sympathetic qualities.

Oxenwood’s natural rattan is not chemically treated and so produces a beautiful natural colour.  Our natural rattan is semi outdoor, which means it can be used outside in the summer months in the UK but we recommend it is brought under cover in the winter. Our synthetic rattan can be left outdoors throughout the year and is totally maintenance free.

We have an extensive range of cushion fabrics and colours which are 100 per cent waterproof with excellent UV resistance and fire retardancy. We can also supply bespoke cushions or, alternatively, solely the cushion pad.

Environmental and Sustainability

Environmental considerations and sustainability are central to our values and ethos; we all need to protect the planet and its diversity for future generations. All our air dried oak comes from European certified sustainable resources under FSC and PEFC forest management systems, which ensures that European oak remains a renewable resource. Oxenwood’s reclaimed or aged oak and teak comes from oak or teak salvaged from old buildings, bridges, boats and railway sleepers. By repurposing these seasoned materials, we not only give them a second life but we also reduce the demand for new oak and teak. Our furniture is exceptionally durable and designed to be passed down through family generations providing a welcome balance to today’s short-lived consumer society.
