Air and Kiln Dried Oak
Oak is our passion, an indigenous wood to the United Kingdom and Europe. A natural and sustainable, highly durable timber, full of character which will last a lifetime and beyond.
Each piece of oak has its own distinct and unique character. Our outdoor oak is air dried for up to 4 years and so is naturally equipped to live outdoors. Our indoor oak is also air dried and then kiln dried to ensure it is of the correct moisture content to live happily indoors.
Oxenwood’s oak may have minor imperfections such as knots and cracks which are an inherent characteristic of oak.
All our air and kiln dried oak comes from European certified sustainable resources under FSC and/or PEFC forest management systems.
All Oxenwood’s tables are available in air and kiln dried oak and are handmade in Wiltshire with standard lead times of approximately 8 weeks although we can make certain “standard” sized tables with 2 to 3 weeks lead time.
Reclaimed Oak
Oxenwood’s reclaimed oak comes from oak salvaged from old buildings, bridges, boats or railway sleepers and has a strong sustainability footprint having been given a “second life” as an Oxenwood table.
Oxenwood’s reclaimed oak has all the characteristics of air and kiln dried oak and may also incorporate oak patches or plugs and is the perfect solution for clients who are seeking outdoor oak furniture full of character and interest.
We source each piece of reclaimed oak individually and so lead times are approximately 10 to 12 weeks.
Teak
Oxenwood’s teak tables are an ideal option if you are looking for an outside table in teak (with either a teak top or an Oxenwood Belgian bluestone top) and in the distinctive Oxenwood style.
In keeping with our focus on sustainability, Oxenwood’s teak is salvaged from old buildings, bridges, boats or railway sleepers and may incorporate oak patches or plugs which add character and interest. This character makes each Oxenwood teak piece unique and tells a story of its past, infusing each piece with a sense of history and character which is impossible to replicate with new materials.
All our teak tables are made in Indonesia and so lead times for teak items are longer than for our traditional oak tables. Teak lead times are normally 16 to 20 weeks.
Oak and Teak
Each Oxenwood oak and teak piece will age differently and develop its own unique character. When used outdoors, oak and teak will develop a grey patina over time. Oxenwood’s furniture is designed to be authentic, and we believe that it’s response to external influences plays an important part in Oxenwood’s furniture developing its own personality over time. Whichever the choice, all Oxenwood’s oak and teak pieces are designed and built to last for generations and be passed down between generations.
